Dear New Mother,
Does anything that you just saw or heard in this video describe you in
any way? If you answered 'yes' then you are more than likely a victim
of a serious condition that affects thousands of women every single
year. This condition is known as Postpartum Depression and it has been
troubling new mothers since the beginning of time.
If you are suffering from postpartum depression, then watching this
video should have already inspired a bit of relief inside of you...
Why?
Because now you know that somebody else knows what you are going
through and that you are not alone. The feelings you are having right
now do not make you a bad person, but these feelings do need to be
taken under control as soon as possible. And that is what I am here
for.
You Are Not Alone
I would like to start by telling you that you did a great job by coming
here. You had the courage to admit that you might need some help. And
this is the first step. You are thinking that you might not be able to
get through this on your own. Well, let me tell you that it's okay,
there are some things in life that you just cannot do on your own.
There is nothing wrong with that. You can stop worrying now, because I
am here to help you through this.
I Am Here To Help You
Hey there, my name is Bethany Cook. I am the proud mother of 2
beautiful children and a former victim of postpartum depression.
Although it was 3 years ago, I can still vividly remember having my
first child. It was early June and we had just moved from our apartment
in Michigan to a Condo in South Carolina. I had just moved away from
all of my family. My husband and I thought it would be a good idea to
move away from the cold weather, but we weren't expecting me to get
pregnant any time soon. I was on birth control and we couldn't believe
it happened. But.... it did. And now we were far from any family... and
I was about to have a child.
The truth is that we weren't too worried about it. I mean we knew we
could handle it and we knew we would make it through alright. We were
both actually very excited about our up and coming new addition to the
household and we were ready to take on the challenge..
But then... I gave birth to my first daughter. And little did I know
that this was going to mark the start one of the saddest, lowest, most
depressing, and scariest times in my life.
Little did I know that this was going to mark the start of one of the
most depressing times of my life.
At first I didn't notice. Or maybe I only chose not to notice. I
thought I was just tired from giving birth and that I would feel better
soon. Time went on and I only started to feel worse.
I started to feel down very often. It seemed like I felt like crying
all of the time. Every minute of the day I could easily break down into
tears if I didn't purposely hold it back. I had never felt a depression
like this. This feeling was very unfamiliar to me and it terrified
me...
"Why was I feeling so sad?"
I started to get worse by the day. A deep feeling of hopelessness had
lodged itself within me and would not leave. It felt like it had
consumed me and no matter what I did I couldn't snap out of it. I
developed a sense of worthlessness and a huge never-ending sense of
guilt. I felt guilty all of the time and I didn't know why. I just felt
worthless...
"Why did I feel so guilty?"
"Was I guilty because I felt so sad?"
"Does that even make sense?"
"Why do I feel so worthless?..."
These are all questions that were riddling my mind. All the while
competing with the pressures of taking care of my newborn baby. I felt
like I was going insane. I had no idea where the old Christina went,
but she was no where to be found. And then...
The unthinkable...
I began having negative thoughts towards my own child. It started with
just a general feeling of detachment and a lack of interest for my
baby. But then it started to get worse. Now I was really starting to
question my sanity.
I was starting to fear that I might, myself, try to cause harm to my
own baby. Now, that may sound crazy to some. But, to someone suffering
from severe postpartum depression like I was, this is very real. And
most of all, completely terrifying. Deep in my mind I knew that I would
never hurt my baby, but when I started to fear doing so... these
thoughts would start to manifest in my mind into a reality and I would
have to constantly remind myself that I was not crazy and that I would
never harm my beautiful daughter.
Along with this, and I am somewhat ashamed to say it, but I started
having thoughts of suicide. Yes, you may have already came to this
decision... I was a total wreck. These thoughts were so scary that I
cannot begin to try to explain them to you. Life was starting to seem
truly pointless. It is absolutely frightening. If you are experiencing
this then you know exactly what I am saying. I just couldn't believe. I
never would have imagined in a million years that I would ever have
thoughts of hurting myself or even suicide. I mean what in the world
was wrong with me?
"What was wrong with me?"
"Am I going to hurt my very own child?"
"Am I going to hurt myself?"
"Will I ever get better?..."
The last question is the biggest question of all. And this is the
question that scared me the most. Was I ever going to get better? Am I
going to end up going over the edge? Is my baby going to be okay?
The answer is Yes.
You are going to be just fine.. and so is your baby. I am going to help
you. I am going to help you because postpartum depression is something
that does not need to be taken lightly, and I myself have been through
it. So, I know just how horrible it is. But, there is another reason to
get you cured of your postpartum depression as soon as possible. And
that reason is your child.
When you suffer from the symptoms of postpartum depression, this can
directly affect your child. Studies show that children of women that
suffered from postpartum depression are much more likely to grow up to
have internal conflicts. These children are more likely to be insecure,
lack in confidence, and are less comfortable with the world around
them. These children also have a higher risk of suffering from anxiety
and depression themselves.
Are You Suffering From Postpartum Depression Symptoms That Are
Negatively Affecting You and The Life Of Your Child?
I know that I was suffering from many serious symptoms. And if I hadn't
been cured of my postpartum depression soon, my baby would have been
affected... maybe even permanently. So, what is the best thing you can
do in your current situation?
Be strong enough to know when you're suffering from postpartum
depression. And know that if you don't do something about it soon. It
may get worse, and it may affect your child.
So how do you know if you have reached that point?
Well let me tell you this... the deeper into postpartum depression you
allow yourself to go, the harder it is to cure; and the more permanent
the effects will be on you and your child.
So if you feel any symptoms what so ever, you need to understand that
now is the time to get you cured... not later.
Are Any of The Following Happening to You?
Do you lack motivation and energy?
Are you sleeping too much?
Can you not sleep at all?
Have you been experiencing a sense of guilt?
Do you feel worthless?
Do you feel like you have no interest in your baby?
Are you experiencing negative feelings towards your baby?
You cannot find pleasure or happiness in anything you do?
Do you lack a concern for yourself or your baby?
Have you been fearing you may hurt your baby?
Have you been fearing you may hurt yourself?
Do thoughts of death and suicide come to mind often?
Do you feel hopeless?
Are You Ready To Rid Yourself Of These Feelings? Are You Ready To Let
Me Help You?
Now that you understand that what you are going through is very serious
and can have devastating effects on your future, we are going to rid
you of these feelings... fast. It is time to turn the page and start a
new chapter in your life.
